First of all, the watch is solid and well made. So far, it's the most competitive and
representing best value traveller GMT with Miyota 9075 i could find. Legibility is great and lumes are good especially the bezel. Thickness is good, but the it wears a bit smaller on my wrist. Currently running -5 spd.
Ok, despite all the good features, here my wish list (personal preference)
1) the clasp edge is sharp. It can scratch our body easily.
2) i would be better if there is 24 hours scale on the dial giving capability to track 3 timezones like seiko SSK001.
3) it seems the case material is not hard or scratch resistant. I got some scratches when changing the bracelet to strap. Of course, it requires skill for proper springbar removal, but i don't have issues with my other watches, be it Swiss made or Japanese.
4) in my opinion, the packaging is too humble without any instructions. It takes me sometimes to find out the screw pin to resize the bracelet. And being the first time wearing traveler GMT, i had to search internet to understand how to set time and date.
Received my black/red 18 days ago! Love the watch & have been wearing it lots! Just the watch I need for my travels! The pictures by Borealis doesn’t even come close to how nice the actual watch looks & feels!
A few very notable standouts for me. Love the asymmetrical case but it’s subtle and balanced. Very unique which I didn’t notice until the physical watch arrived. I also liked how Borealis worked out the brushed & polished surfaces across the watch. Just feels like they’re all at the right places! The watch can feel both toolish & dressy when the occasion calls for it.
The phenomenal bracelet is supremely comfy & the hidden micro adjustment although not Rolex glidelock smooth, is still such a surprising great feature for a watch at this price point! Another pleasant discovery; the bracelet is held by screws instead of pins normally found on watches at this grade!
The lume, even on the bezel is largely bright and excellent! This is such a great watch at a hard to believe pricing! The quality and finishing is notches above its price blowing away the competition running the same Miyota movement any day! One other major plus is this runs on the flyer gmt instead of the usual caller gmt offered by so many other major brands competing around the same price segment!
However 1 thing really bothering me is I wished they would’ve made the gmt indicator a little bigger. It’s ok in the day and with light but almost impossible to spot the hand in the dark. In fact the seconds hand is bigger & easier to see. Or maybe with age my eyesight is getting bad 😅 I’m also not a fan of the BOREALIS font on the dial unfortunately. It just doesn’t feel like part of the watch/dial. Instead I feel the Estoril font fits the dial way better.
However as a total package this is really an outstanding watch! No regrets. I did much comparisons prior before pulling the trigger. Still considering if I should get 1 more in a different colorway although pricing has gone up from the initial promo. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to try a mechanical gmt if on a tighter budget! Great work Borealis!!!
